Dear Food Democracy Now Supporters,

Without you, none of this work we're so honored to do would be possible and we want to thank you!

For the past 3 years, you’ve helped build one of the most powerful grassroots movement in the history of the food movement. After 20 years of being denied the basic right to know what’s in our food here in the United States, you’ve formed a vital link on the front lines of fighting for social change against the most powerful corporations on the planet here in the U.S. and abroad.

Today is an important day for voters in Colorado and Oregon and eaters everywhere. Like voters in California and Washington before them, they will go to the polls and cast a vote in favor of labeling genetically engineered foods.

At Food Democracy Now!, we know full well the powerful forces that we are up against. In Oregon they’ve spent more than $21 million to confuse voter about the ballot initiative, and in Colorado they’ve spent nearly $17 million!

For the past 2 months, the opposition, led by giant biotech seed and chemical companies Monsanto, DuPont and Dow Chemical and America’s leading food companies like PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, General Mills, Kraft, Land O’Lakes and Smucker’s have bombarded the airways with false and misleading ads in an effort to get everyday voters to vote against their best interests.

Just this afternoon we learned that the Oregon Secretary of State's office reported that Monsanto dumped an extra $1.35 million into Oregon last week – bringing their total to more than $5.95 million in Oregon alone. Since the Oregon website only lists donations up to October 27 – that number could continue to grow!

In sum total, Monsanto will have spent more than $10.65 million to keep voters in the dark this year alone!

In a Democracy, Rights Matter – 64 Other Countries Label GMOs, Why Not America?

What these elections are really about is our democracy. Freedom. Consumer choice. The real question is, who writes the rules in a democracy? You? Everyday citizens? Or Giant Chemical Corporations?

We are fighting for a basic democratic right. A fundamental human right, the simple right to know what’s in our food.

No matter how many lies Monsanto and their junk food allies tell, our rights as citizens do not end where the fear of giant chemical companies begin.

At Food Democracy Now! we want to thank you for participating in this incredible experience called democracy and helping build a grassroots movement that is putting immense political pressure on the levers of power against those who would rather keep us eating in the dark.

Prepare for Delayed Election Results!

Most likely we will not know election results tonight on election night. If you were with us during Prop 37 in California and I-522 in Washington, the early results were against us, but the gap closed significantly in the following days after the polls closed.

It may take until the following day or even weeks as it did in California before we know the final results. But we will keep you updated!

What is Happening Right Now in Colorado and Oregon Affects Us All

This would be impossible without you and your family and friends standing with us and our allies, shoulder to shoulder. From the bottom of our hearts, we couldn’t thank you enough for the incredible difference that you've made here in Oregon, Colorado and beyond.

Thank you for participating in food democracy,

Dave, Lisa and the Food Democracy Action! team
