By FoodDemocracyNow,

RED ALERT: SENATE VOTE TODAY to sell out American's rights to protect Monsanto's toxic profits!

Last week Maine's Senators Susan Collins and Angus King just voted to kill Vermont's historic GMO labeling bill and the one we passed in Maine in 2013 – and TODAY THEY COULD DO IT AGAIN

Last week the U.S. Senate rushed a procedural vote so they could kill GMO labeling here in America. Now, because of this procedural vote late last Thursday evening, which passed by a margin of 68 to 29, there will be very limited debate on the Senate floor and Senate leaders Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Pat Roberts (R-KS) believe it is filibuster proof!

Another vote is expected TODAY and after voting against us, Senator Collins and Senator King need to hear from you today!

WHO do Senators King and Collins actually work for – MAINE or MONSANTO?

Your calls will make a difference!

It is CRITICAL that all of us make calls NOW to our senators urging them to VOTE AGAINST the Monsanto Stabenow / Roberts corrupt bargain (S. 764) and DEFEND MAINE's HISTORIC GMO LABELING LAW.

We need to make sure they hear – Loud and Clear – that we won’t allow them to steal our basic democratic rights to protect Monsanto’s toxic profits.

Here is what Senator Collins and Senator King need to hear from us:

  • They MUST OPPOSE the Monsanto Stabenow / Roberts corrupt bargain (S. 764) or any proposal that would preempt States' Rights and Maine's and Vermont's landmark GMO Labeling bills.
  • They MUST SUPPORT mandatory on-package labeling that says: "produced with genetic engineering" to institute strong mandatory GMO Labeling nationwide.

Please SHARE this Important message to your Senators far and wide with friends and family this 4th of July!

Republicans and Democrats Climb into Bed to Protect Monsanto and Big Food!

The current legislation from Senators Debbie Stabenow and Pat Roberts is so corrupt and poorly written that last week the FDA issued a statement on the bill confirming that the definition of "bioengineered" is so broad that it won't cover any GMOs currently on the market. You know, the one's sold by Monsanto that are genetically engineered to be resistant to Roundup.

That's right, Maine's Senators would rather offer a corporate bailout to Monsanto, the company whose bestselling weedkiller contains glyphosate, which the world's leading cancer experts at the World Health Organization linked to cancer in humans and lab animals!

So think about that, rather than stand up for states' rights and a mother's right to know what's in the food they're feeding their children – Senators King and Collins just voted to save a company who's leading product could cause you cancer.Only in America!

The vote is expected to take place THIS AFTERNOON and Senators Collins and King need to hear from you today!

Please share with your friends and call your Senators today! Every voice counts!

Remember, democracy is like a muscle, either you use it or you lose it!

2. See how your Senator Voted on this procedural motion to Kill States’ Rights and Vermont’s Historic GMO Labeling Law!
Please understand, the Republicans used a parliamentary trick known as a "gut and amend" to advance this corrupt GMO labeling bill, by putting new language that bans GMO labeling in a bill that was previously title "Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015". Senate Republicans did this so they could limit debate and advance this Monsanto Whole Foods bailout.
So Republicans are now using Congressional tricks to reward their campaign donors and Democrats are happy to climb on board. To find out how corrupt your Senators are, click on the link above and see how they voted!
